When Do Commercial Water Heaters Need to be Replaced

When Do Commercial Water Heaters Need to be Replaced?

If you have a commercial property, you will want to keep up with your commercial water heaters to ensure that hot water is to where it needs to go. Commercial hot water heaters are subject to breakdown, just like regular hot water heaters. If something is wrong with your plumbing system, you will need to have a commercial plumbing company come out to repair this. Never try to fix your hot water heater by yourself. These water heaters can be dangerous and can be difficult to work on.

Do You Have A Tankless Or Tank System?

There are two different types of water heaters. Tankless and tank. A tankless system is expected to last for at least 20 years. A water heater that has a tank is only expected to live for around ten years. If you notice any issues with your hot water heater and is over ten years old or 20 for a tankless, it could be time for a replacement.

Signs That You May Need To Replace Or Repair

Your commercial water heaters will typically give you a sign that they are approaching the end of their life. It will also give you signs of it needs to be repaired. You will need to work with your commercial plumber to determine which is the best course of action. Here are some of the things that may indicate that your hot water heater has an issue.

  • No hot water. No hot water could indicate that there is a reduced function in your hot water heating system. It also could indicate that there has been an increased use of water within your commercial building.
  • Discolored water. If rusty or discolored water comes out of your faucets, this is a sign of deterioration in the commercial water heaters. They will need to be replaced as soon as possible.
  • Leaks. If you experience leaks in your system, you will need to get it repaired. Tankless system links are generally easily repaired. However, if you have a tank commercial hot water heater, it generally requires a replacement.
  • Loud noises. If you hear a loud noise in your commercial water heaters, this may signify calcium deposits in the heater. This is found in the tank-style water heaters. Left untreated, this calcium deposit can build up and block the drain valve.

This can cause a hot water heater to work harder and eventually lead to its breakdown. If you hear any loud noises, you will need to consider getting a replacement for your hot water heater. Typically by the time you hear this noise, the water heater is not repairable.
